Videoconferencing Profit Capital Market.forum – Stock market in the year of health crisis and economic uncertainties

The Romanian capital market is going through a period with special opportunities and challenges. Promoted to the status of secondary emerging market last autumn, in a historic decision by the financial rating agency FTSE Russell, the stock exchange opened its doors to more important categories of investors, who could start buying shares listed in Bucharest. A favorable context, which should also be reflected in the real economy, overlapping, however, unfortunately, over the health crisis that has affected all financial markets and the economy in general. Despite the pandemic and the uncertainties in which the economy continues to evolve, 2020 was not a bad year for the capital market. Beyond promotion to emerging market status, liquidity has increased by 40%, to almost 3 billion euros, but remains far from potential. The participation of individual investors also remains far from the potential, despite the slightly better evolution lately. The context can be a favorable one, in an era of bank interest rates at historic lows or even at negative values, which did not discourage the need to save in a time full of uncertainties. The state has also increased its financing through the Bucharest Stock Exchange, but lags behind with plans to list its owned companies, after a period in which the alienation of state shares was temporarily banned. An additional challenge arises for the financing of infrastructure projects through the capital market. For the real economy, where bank financing has always been overwhelming in weight, companies are gradually taking steps to finance themselves more and more through the stock market, but the growth rate is quite slow. In this context, Profit.ro aims to bring into debate the major issues of concern to capital market players, bringing together, at a virtual table, representatives of relevant financial institutions, companies and private investors, as well as supervisors and regulators. in the field.

MAIN TOPICS UNDER DEBATE

  • Effects of the Pandemic on the Capital Market
  • Developments and challenges after promotion to emerging market status

  • “Competition” with Forex and cryptocurrency platforms
