Event Profit Health.forum – The capacity of the medical system for post-Covid recovery and resilience. What lessons have we learned in the pandemic? 10th Edition

    CONTEXT

  • After the crisis caused by the pandemic, the health system needs quick measures for recovery. Recovery and, above all, repositioning in the hierarchy of national priorities.
  • Europe is already talking about preparing for a prompt and effective response to other possible new health challenges, but also about the major responsibility regarding health protection. It is an exercise of unanimous political will aimed, among other things, at the allocation of resources to cover the needs of the system, but also at the efficient administration and management of funds.
  • WHAT IS ROMANIA DOING IN THIS SENSE?
What are the vulnerabilities of the health system? What are the proposals so that the medical system recovers as quickly as possible, the major shortage of personnel is reduced, and patients’ access to quality medical services and innovative treatments is no longer restricted? What immediate solutions do the authorities have, so that hospitals become safe health institutions, and Romanian medical staff and researchers receive the recognition they deserve? Recently, the National Plan for Combating Cancer was launched, an important document for improving the life of the cancer patient, who was bereaved during the pandemic. We await the implementation of the plan. For a real reform, we need political will, solidarity and, above all, respect for the work of those who bear the brunt of this health system. The Profit Health.forum conference aims to debate these topics and thus find out what the authorities’ plans are for the future of health and, at the same time, how managers, doctors and patients, professional associations see this future. The Romanian Constitution says “The right to health protection is guaranteed”. The state is obliged to take measures to ensure hygiene and public health.

    DISCUSSION TOPICS:

PANEL 1 – What lessons did COVID19 teach us? Recognition of problems, solutions to solve them, realistic plans for the future

    • The health, economic and social crisis caused by COVID-19 has strongly shaken the Romanian health system, which is still suffering from shortcomings. Now the authorities have a crucial obligation to think about better preparation and response to future possible health threats.
    • Firm decisions are needed, well-established relations between those responsible for national and local health, the effective involvement of all health structures. And perhaps, not least, a joint statement summarizing the position of the authorities regarding the identification and acceptance of the shortcomings, even the mistakes of these two years, finding solutions to fix the problems and, above all, realistic plans for the future.

PANEL 2 – Lessons from COVID 19: Vulnerabilities of the system: Lack of staff. The situation in hospitals. The need for new treatments. The importance of proper communication and prevention.

    • The first and most serious problem of the system is the major lack of staff. In spite of the repeated signals drawn, for years, by professional organizations and patients, related to this major shortage of staff, the authorities found solutions to partially solve the problem, when the knife reached their bone, during the pandemic. Staff brought in to fill gaps in certain specialties must be retained. Moreover, extra forces must be brought in to balance the entire system. Personnel policy must become the major concern of the authorities.
    • Other problems: the state of hospitals and the lack of treatment and recovery centers.
    • What would be the solutions to alleviate the effects of the crisis created by the pandemic?
    • Why do we need a Healthcare Innovation Pact?
